It’s quite easy to cross over into the Austrian region of Carinthia or reach Slovenia when you start off from Ravascletto. Yet, Upper Friuli offers magical, inviting places which are even closer, providing you with a number of options to choose from.
All who love to go trekking, hiking or alpine climbing will be fully satisfied with the beauty of the mountains and the often unexpected enchanting places in the Alps.
Carnia is home to thick woods, as well as multitudes of herbs and flowers, which make it one of the most important botanical areas in Europe. It also provides shelter for animals such as chamois, badgers, marmots, roe deer, eagles, eagle-owls, pheasants and many more species.
This area of the Alps has been preserved exceptionally well, having found a way to develop it in harmony with nature, without abusing the environment or spoiling the local customs and traditions that are part of the deeply rooted cultural heritage of the mountain people.
This region offers a wide variety of activities, including different sports.
Away from the frenzy of every day you can engage in the activities you are most interested in or try some new ones: climbing, paragliding, hang gliding for the bravest and most enterprising; fishing, horse riding or indoor sports (volleyball, basketball, futsal, tennis and fencing in Ravascletto’s new sports centre) for the more traditional.
During the winter season, the skiing district of Ravascletto – Zoncolan – is the ideal place for Alpine skiing.
The ski area offers countless ski-lifts and downhill runs. It has over 30 km of ski runs at various levels of difficulty, beginning with the 950 m altitude of Ravascletto to the 2000 m of Mount Tamai, making this area perfect for beginners and expert skiers alike.
A rapid cable car takes skiers up to the peak where the runs start. Hotel La Perla sits on the valley floor and can be reached by skiing down either the Lavèt or Canalone run.
Wheels & Motors
Carnia and Upper Friuli in general are ideal for those who love to ride motorcycles and bicycles. Tours for bikers easily cross over into Austria and Slovenia, which are very close owing to the passes and the ups and downs of our mountains that boast well-surfaced roads with little traffic.
The landscape changes rapidly through these wonderful valleys as you enjoy your motorcycle adventure through picturesque villages with breathtaking views.
